Softball Recap: Columbia Finds Playoff Glory Versus Independence

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Columbia walked away with it. They had just enough and edged out the Independence Blue Devils 4-3. The victory was nothing new for the Raiders as they're now sitting on five straight.

Sadie Schulke made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season.

In other pitching news, Alina Jones looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Schulke wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jessica Jacobs, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Columbia's win bumped their record up to 17-7. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 19-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Columbia beat the Blue Devils by a score of 4-3 later that day.
