Softball Recap: Mescalero Apache Comes Up Short

Mescalero Apache extended their losing streak to nine on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-12. They lost 19-0 to the Capitan Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 last Wednesday.

As for Capitan, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games.

For Capitan's part, Shaeleigh VanWinkle was incredible, firing off three triples while going 3-for-4. Cambree West was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Capitan beat Mescalero Apache by a score of 23-0 later that day.
