Basketball Game Preview: Sarasota Sailors vs. Millington Central Trojans

The Sarasota Sailors will take on the Millington Central Trojans in a tournament on Friday.

Last Tuesday, Sarasota might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Port Charlotte an easy 64-41 victory. While losing is never fun, the Sailors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while the Pirates are ranked 17th).

Sarasota might have lost, but man, Paisley Binswanger was a machine: she dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 boards. Binswanger's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Natalie Richard was another key player, putting up six points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Millington Central entered their tilt with Bolton on Saturday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They breezed by the Wildcats to the tune of 53-23. The contest marked the Trojans' most dominant win of the season so far.

Sarasota better keep an eye on Kaitlyn Holmes. She was instrumental in Millington Central's win, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. Those nine rebounds gave Holmes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Arionna Banks, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Millington Central's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for Sarasota, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
