Softball Recap: Choctaw Central Takes Down Ranked Northeast Lauderdale

On Thursday, Choctaw Central faced Northeast Lauderdale in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Everything went the Choctaw Central Warriors' way against the Northeast Lauderdale Trojans as the Choctaw Central Warriors made off with a 16-3 win. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by eight runs or more this season.

Mauhree Jones made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Choctaw Central got a massive performance out of Ashlyn Killingsworth, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5. Those runs marked the first that Killingsworth scored this season. Rayne Killingsworth was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Choctaw Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.

Choctaw Central pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Northeast Lauderdale, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-1.

Looking ahead, Choctaw Central will head out to take on Neshoba Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Northeast Lauderdale, they will be playing at home against Quitman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Northeast Lauderdale has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
