Baseball Recap: Grainger Find Success

After losing to Volunteer the last time they met, Grainger decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Grizzlies came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 6-3 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Grizzlies.

Nolan Wallace made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Wallace was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ty Collins was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Grainger's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-10 when he doesn't). Josh Walker also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Grainger's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-10. As for Volunteer, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grainger will face off against Northview Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Volunteer, they will challenge Hazard at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so the Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
