Basketball Recap: Warren Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Mayci Mullen and Lizzy Hartzell

Warren lost against Stockton back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Warren Warriors took a hard 47-33 fall against the Stockton Blackhawks. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 521st, while the Blackhawks are ranked 222nd).

Warren's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Lizzy Hartzell, who went 5 for 9 en route to 12 points along with seven boards and four steals, and Mayci Mullen, who posted ten points. That was a full 36.4% of Warren's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Emily Vanraalte, who scored six points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Stockton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Madie Mammoser out in front who put up 12 points along with seven boards and six assists. Mammoser is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 19 games she's played. Katelyn Winters was another key player, putting up 14 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Warren has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for Stockton, their win bumped their record up to 17-8.

Warren has already played their next game, a 67-29 defeat against Black Hawk on the 1st. As for Stockton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 47-31 loss against Amboy on the 1st.
