Basketball Recap: Javon Motta Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Southern School of Energy and Sustainability

On Saturday Trinity Christian's undefeated season almost came to an end. They had just enough and edged out the Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Spartans 61-59. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Crusaders have posted since December 5, 2024.

Trinity Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but JaVon Motta led the charge by shooting 46% from the field on his way to 19 points and seven boards. Motta has also been stellar as far as shooting accuracy is concerned: he's posted one of at least 46% every time he's hit the court this season. Baganley Donzo was another key player, going 7-for-12 to rack up 16 points and six rebounds.

Trinity Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Trinity Christian's record is now 5-0. As for Southern School of Energy and Sustainability, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Trinity Christian will welcome Cape Fear Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crusaders' defense better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 63.4 points per game this season. As for Southern School of Energy and Sustainability, they will take on Jordan at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
