Baseball Recap: Clawson Snags 17th Victory in Last 20 Games

Clawson won the last time they faced Ferndale and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Trojans put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 13-3 victory. Considering the Trojans have won 15 games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Shane Dunlap was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Elliott Groves was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Jackson Hein was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.

Clawson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.4.

Clawson has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 17 of their last 20 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-7-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Ferndale, their loss dropped their record down to 13-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clawson will challenge Shrine Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Ferndale, they will welcome Renaissance at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
