Recap: University Trailblazers vs. Covenant Christian Warriors
The University Trailblazers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They rang in the new year with a 54-45 win over Covenant Christian. That result was just more of the same for these two, as University also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
University got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Robert Russell out in front who scored ten points along with three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Blake Gray, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Covenant Christian still got an impressive performance from Nathan Crane, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Crane, who scored 11 points.
The win got University back to even at 6-6. As for Covenant Christian, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.
University will be playing at home against Muncie Burris at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Muncie Burris will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 396th, while University is ranked 196th). As for Covenant Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Columbus North at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Columbus North is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
