Football Recap: Newsome Wolves vs. Riverview Sharks
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Newsome and Riverview meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Wolves were just a hair shy of victory and fell 36-35 to the Sharks. The Wolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Sharks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.
A big part of Riverview's victory came down to the chemistry between Carter Peternell and his top target Alex McPherson. Peternell rushed for 67 yards and one score on only five carries while McPherson picked up 167 receiving yards and three TDs. Those three receiving touchdowns gave McPherson a new career-high.
Newsome dropped their record down to 1-4 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. Those home defeats can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 29.7 points over those games. As for Riverview, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
