MaxPreps 2014-15 Virginia preseason girls basketball Fab 5, presented by the Army National Guard

Three returning state champions, including No. 1 Princess Anne, make up Virginia's top five girls basketball teams.

1. Princess Anne (Virginia Beach)
2013-14 record: 28-1
Head coach: Darnell Dozier

The Cavaliers graduated just two seniors off last year's 5A state championship team that finished No. 1 in the MaxPreps computer rankings for the state. Among the key returners is 5-10 junior guard Gadiva Hubbard, who made seven 3-pointers and scored 35 points in the team's 57-52 win over Highland Springs to capture the state title.

2. Cosby (Midlothian)
2013-14 record: 26-0
Head coach: TBA



The defending 6A champions were small in numbers — a six-person roster — but four of them were taller than 6-foot and the remaining two were 5-10. The Titans lost just two seniors and return 6-3 junior Tyra Whitehead (13 ppg, 10 rpg) along with North Carolina commit Jocyln Jones a 5-11 junior. This year's roster features 13 players, five of whom are at least 6-foot.

3. Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.)
2013-14 record: 29-5
Head coach: Scott Allen

The Panthers won the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division I title last season and return 6-4 post Jonquanae Cole who had 11 points and 12 rebounds in the team's 62-32 win over St. Anne's-Belfield in the finals. Paul VI returns nine girls from last year's team, which won its eighth straight VISAA title and closed last season with 16 straight wins. The Panthers also return standouts Raven James and Jasmine Whitney.

4. St. Anne's-Belfield (Charlottesville)
2013-14 record: 23-3
Head coach: Phil Stinnie



The Saints return three of their top four scorers: 5-11 junior Ashley Taylor (11.5 ppg), junior wing Mailynn Steppe (10.4 ppg) and 5-7 sophomore point guard Brianna Tinsley (10.0 ppg). The Saints graduated just three of last seasons' 19-person roster.

5. Spotswood (Penn Laird)
2013-14 record: 26-2
Head coach: Chris Dodson

The Trailblazers return eight girls from last year's 3A state champion, including 5-7 senior shooting guard Elizabeth Dofflemyer, who averaged 15.1 points per game. Addisen Delucas, a 5-10 sophomore and McKenzie Jenkins, a 5-6 senior, are other key returners.
