With a playoff win on the line, Parkersburg South rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the University Hawks. The victory was nothing new for the Patriots as they're now sitting on three straight.
Anniston Shelton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brylee Hatcher and Brooklin Whitehead did most of the damage at the plate: Hatcher went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Whitehead went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Hatcher has posted since back in March.
Parkersburg South's win bumped their record up to 16-6. As for University, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 18-4-1 record.
Looking ahead, Parkersburg South will face off against Morgantown at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. University does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
