Volleyball Recap: Newark Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

Newark hadn't done well against Dublin Jerome recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Wildcats came out on top against the Celtics by a score of 3-1. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 2-1 victory the Celtics walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Newark walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the fourth set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 27-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-14.

Makayla Meister paced Newark's offense, picking up 26 kills. Meister got some help from Peyton Sherman and her 48 assists. Brooke Spangler controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

When it comes to explaining why Dublin Jerome lost, don't look at Maya Bleeks. Despite the final result, she had 17 digs and seven assists. Bleeks has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more digs the last four times she's played. Audrey Taylor also deserves some recognition as she had her first blocks of the season.

Newark pushed their record up to 15-5 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. As for Dublin Jerome, their defeat ended an eight-match streak of away wins and brought them to 14-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Newark will head out to square off against Reynoldsburg at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Dublin Jerome, they will venture away from home to challenge Olentangy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Braves have played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
