Volleyball Recap: Doherty Spartans vs. Rampart Rams
Doherty was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 3-1 to the Rampart Rams. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Rams this season, with their most recent loss being a 3-0 defeat on October 2nd.
Doherty started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-14.
Brenna Moerman paced Doherty's offense, picking up 17 kills. Moerman got some help from Makari Cooper and her 17 assists.
Rampart's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gabriella Melecio, who had 12 digs and two aces. Melecio is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ellery Anderson, who had 14 digs.
Doherty's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Rampart, the win was the 18th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-1.
Looking ahead, Doherty will take on Bayfield in a tournament on Friday. As for Rampart, they will challenge Eaton at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
