Softball Game Preview: Benjamin Logan Raiders vs. Shawnee Braves

The Benjamin Logan Raiders will face off against the Shawnee Braves at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Benjamin Logan will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Riverside on Saturday. The Raiders blew past the Pirates 10-4. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Shawnee ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top against Northwestern by a score of 7-4. The win was familiar territory for the Braves, who have now won six matchups in a row.

Alee Trimmer spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ava George, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Byanca Dubie also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Shawnee's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Benjamin Logan, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Benjamin Logan came out on top in a nail-biter against Shawnee in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Braves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
