Basketball Recap: Santa Rosa Takes a Loss

Santa Rosa has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 28.3 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They took a blow against the Rio Hondo Bobcats, falling 102-23. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Bobcats recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

Santa Rosa lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kamryn Navarro, who posted six points along with eight boards and three steals. Navarro is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gisele Perez, who earned two points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Santa Rosa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rio Hondo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carlie Rodriguez, who almost dropped a double-double on 34 points and nine steals. Emily Molina was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 24 points and nine steals.

Santa Rosa's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-8. As for Rio Hondo, they pushed their record up to 24-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road.

Santa Rosa didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 41-8 victory against IDEA Riverview on the 28th. As for Rio Hondo, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 75-40 win against Raymondville on the 28th.
