The Escambia Academy Cougars will face off against the Cornerstone Christian Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Escambia Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Cornerstone Christian likes a good challenge.
Escambia Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alabama's top teams: Trinity Christian, who was ranked 14th at the time (Escambia Academy was ranked third). The Cougars simply couldn't be stopped last Friday as they easily beat the Eagles 72-42. Fans of the Cougars have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Meanwhile, Cornerstone Christian didn't have too much trouble with Evangel Christian Academy on Friday as they won 30-16. Those 30 points were actually the fewest the Chargers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Escambia Academy better keep an eye on Jackson Moore. He was instrumental in Cornerstone Christian's win, rushing for 267 yards and three scores. Moore is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 118 every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jadon Dxion, who rushed for 81 yards and one touchdown on only five carries.
Cornerstone Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 366 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 310 rushing yards in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Cornerstone Christian's defense and their five sacks. In that department, Grant Standifer was the leader with three.
Escambia Academy pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points over those games. As for Cornerstone Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.
Everything came up roses for Escambia Academy against Cornerstone Christian in their previous meeting back in November of 2017, as the squad secured a 55-0 win. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
