Softball Recap: Markesan Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Markesan, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past the Princeton/Green Lake Tigers 14-4 on Thursday. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by ten runs or more this season.

Hannah Stellmacher was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ali Kirker, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brianna Boelter, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs.

Markesan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Princeton/Green Lake only posted an OBP of .387.

Markesan's win bumped their record up to 4-7-2. As for Princeton/Green Lake, they moved to 8-8 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Markesan has already played their next matchup (against Green Lake/Princeton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Princeton/Green Lake, they will square off against Pardeeville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
