Baseball Game Preview: Woodsville Engineers vs. Blue Mountain Bucks

For the second straight game, Woodsville will face off against Blue Mountain. The Engineers will head out on the road to challenge the Bucks at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodsville is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Woodsville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Blue Mountain, who was ranked third in their home state at the time (Woodsville was ranked 19th). The Engineers won by a run and slipped past the Bucks 8-7. That's two games straight that the Engineers have won by just one run.

Jacob Putnam made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Putnam was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ryan Walker was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Gabe Roy was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Woodsville pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Blue Mountain, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-3.
