Basketball Recap: Evangelical Christian Takes a Loss

Evangelical Christian was the 70-38 winner over Donahue Catholic when they last played one another back in February of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Evangelical Christian Sentinels fell 67-60 to the Donahue Catholic Shamrocks on Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Evangelical Christian still got an impressive performance from Drew Irwin, who went 9 of 13 en route to 19 points and seven rebounds. Irwin has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Zachary St. John, who posted 12 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Evangelical Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Donahue Catholic only pulled down two offensive boards.

Isaac Loboda was his usual excellent self, going 14 of 23 on his way to 34 points in addition to seven assists and five boards for Donahue Catholic. Those 34 points gave Loboda a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Paul Berg, who went 5 of 6 on his way to 11 points and three steals.

Evangelical Christian has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Donahue Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Evangelical Christian will look to defend their home court on Friday against IMG Academy Gray at 1:30 p.m. Evangelical Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.9 points per game this season. As for Donahue Catholic, they will head out to take on Mason Classical Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Donahue Catholic also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 64.9 points per game.
