Volleyball Recap: Mourning Starts Season with Win on the Road

Mourning had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against the Cushman Cougars as they made off with a 3-0 win.

While Mourning won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. The final score came out to 25-14, 25-17, 25-22.

Julia Shevit had an outrageously good game as she had eight aces and four digs. Those eight aces gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sadie Dunham, who had six digs and one block.

They weren't the only good server: Mourning was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 18 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in 23 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Mourning is taking a road trip to take on iMater Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cushman, they will be taking part in a tournament against Cristo Rey at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
