Basketball Recap: Roosevelt Takes a Loss

Roosevelt entered their match against Grandview on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Roosevelt Roughriders were dealt a 70-43 defeat at the hands of the Grandview Wolves. While losing is never fun, the Roughriders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Wolves are ranked first).

Several Roughriders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kyla Hollier, who posted 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Terry, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 10 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Grandview to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sienna Betts, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. Betts has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more boards the last 31 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ava Chang, who went 7 of 11 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven assists and seven boards.

Roosevelt's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-2. As for Grandview, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3.

Roosevelt will venture away from home to take on Severance at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Roosevelt is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.4 points per game this season. As for Grandview, they will challenge Regis Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
