Galena is 0-10 against Spanish Springs since March of 2023 but things could change on Saturday. The Grizzlies will look to defend their home field against the Cougars at 11:00 a.m. Galena has given up an average of 7.7 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Galena is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Douglas, who was ranked third at the time (Galena was ranked 21st). The Grizzlies lost 13-1 to the Tigers on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Grizzlies couldn't push the score so high this time.
Brea Angle was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Spanish Springs, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They blew past Damonte Ranch 11-1 on Thursday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Spanish Springs also got a great performance from Lily Delamora as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Delamora has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lily Spease was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Izzy Chisholm was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Spanish Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are 9-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Spanish Springs has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Galena, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-13-1.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Galena hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Spanish Springs struggles in that department as they've averaged .366. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Galena might still be hurting after the 18-7 loss they got from Spanish Springs when the teams last played back in March. Can the Grizzlies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
