Basketball Recap: Wellington Comes Up Short

After flying high against Mountain View last Friday, Wellington came back down to earth. The Wellington Eagles had to suffer through a 68-28 loss at the hands of the Severance Silver Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Silver Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 50-29 back in January.

Wellington's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ava Essay, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 16 points, and Brookelyn Jones, who posted six points along with six boards and five blocks. Jones has been hot for a while, having posted two or more blocks the last nine times she's played.

Wellington's defeat was their tenth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-18. As for Severance, their win bumped their record up to 7-14.

Coming up, Wellington will challenge Berthoud at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Severance, they are taking a road trip to face off against Northridge at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Severance has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
