Softball Game Preview: Brentwood Spartans vs. Shady Side Academy Bulldogs

The Brentwood Spartans will challenge the Shady Side Academy Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Brentwood will be strutting in after a win while Shady Side Academy will be coming in after a loss.

Brentwood came out on top against Springdale on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Spartans put the hurt on the Dynamos with a sharp 10-3 victory. That looming 10-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Spartans yet this season.

Emma Thompson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Thompson was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Paige Boehm was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Carma Coberly, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.

Brentwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Shady Side Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Apollo Ridge, falling 16-1.

Brentwood pushed their record up to 4-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Shady Side Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
