Preview: Burton Scorpions vs. Animo Watts Warriors
Burton and Animo Watts are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2015, but not for long. The Burton Scorpions will be playing at home against the Animo Watts Warriors at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Burton comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last nine games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Burton suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Tuesday. They were beaten by New Designs Watts 62-17. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Burton in their matchups with New Designs Watts: they've now lost four in a row.
In what's become a running theme this season, Animo Watts gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Simon Tech with a sharp 72-46 victory. The victory was just what Animo Watts needed coming off of a 71-36 loss in their prior contest.
Animo Watts' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaden Em led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Em also posted eight assists for the first time this season. Jahari Fisher was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven steals.
Burton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Animo Watts, they pushed their record up to 7-6 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Burton took a serious blow against Animo Watts in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 100-8. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Animo Watts' Johntae Forshae, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten assists.
