Basketball Recap: Hanahan Comes Up Short

Hanahan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a hard 53-37 fall against the North Charleston Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while the Cougars are ranked 65th).

Defeat or not, Hanahan got some senior leadership from Dru Goldsmith and Justin Maduro. Goldsmith almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine steals, while Maduro posted six points along with five boards and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Goldsmith has scored all season.

North Charleston's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Richard Hazel III, who put up seven points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists. Hazel III has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Michael Jordan, who went 5 of 6 on his way to 10 points.

Hanahan's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for North Charleston, their win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-6.

Hanahan will venture away from home to square off against Battery Creek at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Hanahan is facing Battery Creek at the right time seeing as Battery Creek is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for North Charleston, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Orangeburg-Wilkinson at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Orangeburg-Wilkinson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.6 points per game this season.
