Softball Recap: Springfield's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

Springfield had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on the MacArthur Generals with a sharp 16-1 victory on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Springfield considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Maylee Payne was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Payne was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Erin Stoops was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ryleigh Cox, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Springfield's win bumped their record up to 9-18. As for MacArthur, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-19.

Looking ahead, Springfield will venture away from home to challenge Glenwood at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Springfield's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Titans have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season. MacArthur does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
