Softball Recap: Sussex Academy Takes Down Ranked Woodbridge

Sussex Academy faced Woodbridge in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Seahawks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Raiders, sneaking past 3-1. While the Seahawks didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Sussex Academy's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Woodbridge, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sussex Academy will venture away from home to challenge Delaware Military Academy at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sussex Academy 2.8, Delaware Military Academy 0.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Woodbridge, they will head out on the road to take on Cape Henlopen at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight.
