Football Game Preview: Coronado Thunderbirds vs. Eastwood Troopers

Coronado hasn't had much luck against Eastwood recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Thunderbirds will be playing at home against the Troopers at 7:00 p.m. Coronado has given up an average of 39.9 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Coronado is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with a 48-35 win over Montwood on Friday. The Thunderbirds haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

One reason for the win was Coronado's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Roberto Serrano was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Serrano is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least eight every time he's taken the field this season. Coronado received some extra help from Sebastian Jaurrieta, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Meanwhile, Eastwood narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Pebble Hills 17-14.

A big part of Eastwood's victory came down to the chemistry between Kingston Jeffries and his top target Jordan Nava. Jeffries threw for 142 yards and one TD while Nava picked up 107 receiving yards and one score.

Coronado's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-5. As for Eastwood, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.
