Softball Recap: Lovett Lions vs. Chattahoochee Cougars
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Woodstock, Lovett was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Chattahoochee Cougars with a sharp 12-4 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Lions needed considering they were shutout in their previous contest.
Kaelyn Rolla was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Rolla was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Elizabeth Murray and Victoria Penake did most of the damage at the plate: Murray scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Penake scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Elle Kaufmann was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Lovett always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chattahoochee only posted an OBP of .318.
The win got Lovett back to even at 1-1.
Lovett will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Kennesaw Mountain at 5:30 p.m. As for Chattahoochee, they will face off against Lumpkin County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chattahoochee is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
