Preview: Bigfork Huskies vs. Floodwood Polar Bears
The Bigfork Huskies will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Floodwood Polar Bears at 5:45 p.m. Bigfork will be strutting in after a victory while Floodwood will be coming in after a loss.
Bigfork scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. Everything went their way against Lake of the Woods as Bigfork made off with a 83-57 victory. The victory was some much needed relief for Bigfork as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Floodwood, who are still winless after their ninth game. They had to suffer through a rough 101-33 loss at the hands of Carlton/Wrenshall. While losing is never fun, Floodwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 435th, while Carlton/Wrenshall is ranked 198th).
Despite the loss, Floodwood saw an underclassman step up: Jonah Spindler scored 14 points. Deacon Laine was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Bigfork's victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-9. As for Floodwood, their defeat was their sixth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 0-9.
Everything came up roses for Bigfork against Floodwood in their previous matchup back in December of 2019 as the squad secured a 71-40 victory. Will Bigfork repeat their success, or does Floodwood have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
