Philipsburg-Osceola is 9-1 against Penns Valley Area since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Mountaineers will head out to face off against the Rams at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Philipsburg-Osceola has seven straight victories, Penns Valley Area has 11 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Philipsburg-Osceola barely beat Clearfield the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mountaineers were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Bison on Monday. Considering the Mountaineers have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Archer Baughman was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Baughman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucas Peterson, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Parker Lamb, who scored four runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Penns Valley Area came up short against Bald Eagle Area on Monday, falling 13-7.

Philipsburg-Osceola's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Penns Valley Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-10.

Everything went Philipsburg-Osceola's way against Penns Valley Area in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Philipsburg-Osceola made off with a 16-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mountaineers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
