Recap: Okeene Whippets vs. Velma-Alma Comets
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Okeene Whippets, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They received a tough blow on Saturday as they fell 66-48 to the Comets. It was the first time this season that Okeene let down their fans at home.
Velma-Alma was led to victory by Kaiden Lyle and Slade Strickland. Lyle rushed for 187 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry, while Strickland rushed for 168 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Strickland hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Langsten Walker, who picked up 92 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Okeene's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Velma-Alma, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 13-1.
Okeene does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Velma-Alma will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Seiling at 7:00 p.m. on December 8th. One thing working in Seiling's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 11 matchups.
