Kathleen takes loss despite strong efforts from Jeremy Nixon and Jerome Groves

Recap: Kathleen Red Devils vs. Santa Fe Catholic Hawks

The Kathleen Red Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 59-41 to Santa Fe Catholic. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Kathleen has scored all season.

Kathleen's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jerome Groves, who scored 24 points, and Jeremy Nixon who scored 15 points. That was a full 36.6% of Kathleen's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Santa Fe Catholic was led to victory by Toby Lane and Tate Darner. Lane scored 13 points along with five steals, while Darner dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Darner pulled down eight or more rebounds. Antonio Wright was another key contributor, scoring ten points.

Kathleen's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-10. As for Santa Fe Catholic, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.

Kathleen won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Auburndale at 8:00 p.m. on January 5th. Auburndale is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. Santa Fe Catholic on the road again on Saturday and play against Melbourne at 11:30 a.m. on January 6th. Melbourne will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 338th, while Santa Fe Catholic is ranked 25th).
