Baseball Recap: Williston Northampton Takes a Loss

Williston Northampton extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-8 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cheshire Academy Cats. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since March 20, 2024.

As for Cheshire Academy, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 18-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

For Cheshire Academy's part, Chase Mendela was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That home run marked the first that Mendela has launched this season.

Looking ahead, Williston Northampton will host Suffield Academy at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Cheshire Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Wooster at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
