Football Recap: Arianna Willoughby Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Land O' Lakes

With a playoff win on the line, Springstead rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They managed a 25-20 victory over the Land O' Lakes Gators. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Gators last Wednesday, they had to take a 19-6 defeat.

Springstead's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Arianna Willoughby, who threw for 135 yards and three TDs. Those 135 passing yards gave Willoughby a new career-high. Another player making a difference was J'Ziyah Munford, who gained 57 total yards and two touchdowns.

Springstead didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Briana Coleman led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by herself.

Springstead pushed their record up to 12-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.7 points on average over those games. As for Land O' Lakes, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 15-2 record.

Coming up, Springstead will face off against Belleview at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Eagles 9.3, the Rattlers 5.7) so any points scored will be well earned. Land O' Lakes does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
