Softball Recap: Valley Mills Now 7-2 over Last Nine Games

With a playoff win on the line, Valley Mills rose to the challenge on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Muenster Hornets 5-4. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Hornets on Wednesday, they had to take a 11-4 loss.

Bianka Martinez made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Martinez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ezra Busch, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lacee Engelbrecht, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Valley Mills has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Muenster, they moved to 25-9-1 with that defeat, which also ended their 21-game winning streak.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Hornets beat Valley Mills by a score of 10-8 later that day.
