Genoa-Hugo/Karval had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against the Cheraw Wolverines by a score of 3-1. For the Pirates, this counts as revenge for the 3-0 win the Wolverines walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2024.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval was actually outscored in aggregate across those four sets (93-92), but they still managed to win. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 27-25, 15-25, 25-22.

Rylee Corn paced Genoa-Hugo/Karval's offense, picking up eight kills. Corn were helped by Rylee Kelly and Rhegan Sitzman, who contributed ten assists each. Sitzman was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval will take on Eads at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cheraw has already played their next contest (against Genoa-Hugo), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
