Basketball Recap: Land O' Lakes Takes a Loss

Land O' Lakes suffered their biggest defeat since February 2, 2024 on Saturday. They were dealt a 66-31 loss at the hands of the Lecanto Panthers. The Gators just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Land O' Lakes lost, don't look at Jessi Saffold. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten steals. That was a full 45.2% of Land O' Lakes' points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

It was another big night for Bryleigh Florio, who almost dropped a double-double on 28 points and nine steals for Lecanto. With that strong performance, Florio is now averaging an impressive 15.9 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Shawna Griffin, who earned 13 points and four steals.

Land O' Lakes now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Lecanto, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Land O' Lakes will host Sunlake at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sunlake will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Land O' Lakes surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lecanto, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Weeki Wachee at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lecanto is on a four-game streak of home wins, Weeki Wachee a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
