Recap: Mission College Prep Royals vs. Morro Bay Pirates
It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Mission College Prep ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged the Morro Bay Pirates out 9-8. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Mission College Prep.
Brody Warwick tossed a big game, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
On the hitting side, Brayden Mott was incredible, going 6-for-6 with a home run, three additional RBI, and two additional runs. Hunter Drake was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
On Morro Bay's side, Caleb Calhoun and Quentin Crotts stepped up to the plate in a big way. Calhoun scored a run while going 3-for-5, while Crotts scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Hank Pilnick, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Morro Bay was hitting in the alleys and finished the game with five doubles. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mission College Prep only hit two.
Mission College Prep's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-4. As for Morro Bay, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.
Mission College Prep will be playing at home against Independence at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Independence is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Morro Bay, they will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Santa Ynez at 3:30 p.m.
