Baseball Game Preview: Giles Spartans vs. Fort Chiswell Pioneers

The Giles Spartans will challenge the Fort Chiswell Pioneers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Giles is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Bland County get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Spartans considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

The team relied heavily on Josiah Schlueter, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Skyler Keffer, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Giles always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Fort Chiswell made easy work of Galax on Tuesday and carried off a 21-2 win. The Pioneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.

Fort Chiswell's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Giles, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-6-1.
