Preview: Huntingtown Hurricanes vs. Lackey Chargers
The Huntingtown Hurricanes will head out on the road to take on the Lackey Chargers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Huntingtown focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Friday.
Last Friday, Huntingtown took a serious blow against North Point, falling 60-25. While losing is never fun, Huntingtown can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while North Point is ranked 47th).
Despite the defeat, Huntingtown saw an underclassman step up: Eva Powell scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Lackey's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 55-46 to McDonough.
This is the second loss in a row for Huntingtown and nudges their season record down to 12-8. As for Lackey, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Huntingtown against Lackey in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 58-23 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Huntingtown since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
