Baseball Recap: Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Starts off Right with Win over Southampton Academy

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against the Southampton Academy Raiders as the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints made off with a 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won eight in a row.

Gavin Angelillo was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Phoenix Hope looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024.

Back at the plate, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy let Noah Brooks and Cam Bergen run wild. Brooks scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Bergen scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. What's more, Brooks posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cole Goodman, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Looking ahead, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy will square off against St. Anne's-Belfield at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Southampton Academy, they will face off against Amelia Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will give Southampton Academy their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season.
