Basketball Recap: Kara Esterak's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Walsh Jesuit over Canton Central Catholic

While it was all tied up 21-21 at halftime, Walsh Jesuit was not quite Canton Central Catholic's equal in the second half on Wednesday. They took a 46-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Canton Central Catholic Crusaders.

Walsh Jesuit's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kara Esterak, who posted 15 points and three steals. Esterak is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Josii Webb was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Walsh Jesuit smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Walsh Jesuit's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Canton Central Catholic, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-5.

The future could be bright for both Walsh Jesuit and Canton Central Catholic: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Walsh Jesuit will try to hand St. Francis DeSales their fourth-straight loss when the two meet at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Canton Central Catholic will look to extend Garaway's 13-game losing streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
