Baseball Recap: Akron Comes Up Short

Akron extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 3-9. They took a 16-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Albion Purple Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Purple Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-0 on Monday.

Hunter Haist led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one double. Jackson Odachowski was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

As for Albion, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games.

On Albion's side, Victor Snyder was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Snyder is becoming a predictor of the Purple Eagles' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Gibson, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Looking ahead, Akron will challenge Oakfield-Alabama at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Albion, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Medina at 12:00 p.m. The Purple Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season.
