Softball Recap: Ben Davis Comes Up Short

Ben Davis had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 1-4 to make it six. They lost 10-0 to the Columbus East Olympians. Having soared to a lofty 21 runs in the game before, the Giants' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Columbus East, they now have a winning record of 5-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.

For Columbus East's part, Baleigh Fish was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, Fish is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Watkins Lola, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Natasha Armstrong, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Looking ahead, Ben Davis will head out on the road to face off against Covenant Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Columbus East, they have already played their next game, a 13-3 defeat against Greenfield-Central on the 16th.
