Baseball Recap: Basic Triumphs

Basic saw some tournament action on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Arvada West Wildcats.

Lincoln Evans tossed a big game, tossing 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He is becoming a predictor of Basic's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Andruw Giles and Matthew Kelley did most of the damage at the plate: Giles went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double, while Kelley went 2-for-4 with one home run. That home run was Giles' first of the season. Brandon Lord was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Basic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Basic's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Arvada West, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Basic will head out on the road to take on Desert Oasis at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Arvada West, they will be taking part in a tournament against Reno at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. The Huskies will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight.
