The Sanford Spartans will face off against the Bonny Eagle Scots at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sanford will be strutting in after a victory while Bonny Eagle will be coming in after a loss.
Sanford will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Westbrook on Saturday. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Blue Blazes. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Spartans' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Tyler Do was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Do was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryan Alexander, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Corliss, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bonny Eagle didn't have quite enough to beat South Portland on Saturday and fell 5-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Scots in their meetings with the Red Riots: they've now lost eight in a row.
Caleb Racicot was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Atticus Dixon was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Jayden Doughty was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Bonny Eagle's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Sanford, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Sanford came out on top in a nail-biter against Bonny Eagle in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Scots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
