Softball Recap: Columbia Tigers vs. Keystone Heights Indians
There's no place like home for Columbia, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Keystone Heights Indians 5-4.
Sakiya Merriex was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Anna Dansby was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Columbia is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. Keystone Heights is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbia will host Santa Fe at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Santa Fe will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Columbia surely won't give up without a fight. As for Keystone Heights, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Oakleaf at 6:00 p.m. on April 8.
